Local Residents Battle Graffiti
On March 28, the Honolulu Advertiser published an article, "Graffiti finds its match in Salt Lake." The article describes how local residents like Howard Shima are battling graffiti by adopting an area and painting over graffiti soon after it occurs. The article goes on to note that Mr. Shima is just one of many other Salt Lake residents who regularly paint over graffiti in their respective turfs.
Graffiti is a serious problem. Introducing and passing legislation is one way of dealing with this problem. Active community involvement like that shown by Howard Shima is another way of dealing with graffiti. Both approaches are needed in order to make our communities graffiti free.
