Business Managers for Public Schools
On April 5, the Honolulu Advertiser published Daniel White's commentary, "Needed: Business managers for public schools." He notes that recent educational reforms have drastically expanded the school principal's job. "With growing pressure to continually improve financial accountability, school principals are spending an alarming amount of time on administrative paperwork, rather than strategies to improve the quality of education in the classroom."
To help school principals deal with the growing administrative demands, we are seeking to have business managers positions included in the state budget, House Bill 500. The business managers will help school principals keep track of the financial complexities while keeping their focus on being educational leaders.
