August 7, 2009 - Honolulu Police Department (HPD) Certificate of Appreciation: tHInk Anti-Drug and Gang Prevention Conference
A conference was held on May 26 and 27 to redirect the path of juveniles who are or who could be at risk of becoming involved in delinquency. Many individuals, organizations, government deparments, faith-based groups, and agencies joined together to guide and mentor the youth. For our efforts, HPD presented certificates of appreciation.

July 23, 2009 - Insights on PBS Hawaii
Senator Sakamoto appeared on Insights on PBS Hawaii moderated by Dan Boylan on July 23, 2009. The discussion centered around the issue of how our public schools will survive impending budget cuts.
Other Panelists included: PATRICIA HAMAMOTO, State Schools Superintendent, GAIL AWAKUNI, Campbell High School Principal; and ALVIN PARKER, Charter School Review Panel & Ka Waihona Charter School Principal.

Senator Sakamoto, Representative Lynn Finnegan, community volunteer Wilbert Ho, MA2 Cassonova Love and Representative K. Mark Takai participated in a legislative recognition ceremony to recognize Naval Station Pearl Harbor for their contributions to the Aiea community by undertaking the task of removing the invasive mangrove and debris along the Pearl Harbor Historic Trail.
