Issue – Gas Cap Law

The gas cap law has generated considerable discussion this session. In response to intense outside pressure blaming the gas cap for increased prices, the Legislature passed House Bill 3115 CD1, which suspends the gas cap indefinitely. The bill also continues the Public Utility Commission's monitoring of wholesale gas prices and allows the Governor to reinstate the cap on gas prices.
The rising price of oil/gasoline means that there are no easy solutions. Although it is a worldwide problem, there are things we can focus on locally: (1) push for fuel efficient automobiles, (2) support mass transit, and (3) promote the production of biofuels like ethanol made from sugar cane.
