The Legislature passed House Bill 2555 CD1, which prohibits Hawaii Community Development Authority (HCDA) from selling land in the Kakaako community development district. In addition, this bill prevents HCDA from approving any residential development makai of Ala Moana Boulevard. The bill addresses our underlying concerns, that is, public land of unique value like the Kaka'ako waterfront should not be sold, but developed for the benefit of future generations.
The HCDA is considering an advisory committee that would allow greater public input into the future development of the parcel. This is a step in the right direction. We all need to come together and agree on a plan that will benefit our children, and our children's children.
