Preparing to Override the Governor's Veto
April 20, 2007
On April 20, the Honolulu Advertiser reported that Senate President Colleen Hanabusa and Governor Linda Lingle "traded swipes" over the Governor's veto of the bill to establish an advisory council for UH Board of Regents candidates. Both Senate and House leaders have promised to override the veto.
Senator Norman Sakamoto noted of the veto: "The governor is again choosing to ignore the will of the people. Hawaii's voters agreed that the selection of regents needs to be above the politics of this governor or any governor. I will join my colleagues in overriding this veto.
